Genesis Essentia Concept Inching prepares for productionAugust 28, 2019
The concept of Genesis Essentia amazed those present at the New York Auto Show in 2018, and, apparently, it will soon arrive on the conveyor.
In an interview with Motor Trend, the head of Genesis, Manfred Fitzgerald, said that the company was already working on a production version, and now the company’s specialists are finalizing the chassis. The Executive Director further said that they are trying to choose “the right power plant and determine how we want to use it.”
This statement is a little open, but Fitzgerald said that “on the table are different configurations and different options.” The idea was to create an electric car with several engines and a chassis with a carbon monocoque, and so far the company believes that the latter is not feasible due to the high cost.
Interestingly, Essentia is not the only concept that is being considered for production. Fitzgerald said they are considering releasing a production version of the Mint prototype.
It’s hard to imagine how a small car, similar to a hatchback, would fit into the Genesis line. However, the concept was quite interesting, as it was a compact two-seater Essentia, presented as an evolution of a city car. He also had a high-density battery that allowed him to cover about 322 km without recharging.
Meanwhile, Genesis is preparing to launch the production of the new Genesis GV80 SUV. Its assembly will be launched at the American brand plant in the middle of next year, and in 2021 a smaller crossover, called the GV70, will be released.
