Genesis confirms G70 compact crossoverJuly 3, 2019
South Korean compact crossover will be shown at the end of 2020, or at the beginning of 2021. The novelty will separate most components and assemblies from the G70 sedan.
In today’s interview with foreign journalists, Erwin Rafael, chief operating officer of the South Korean brand, announced his debut in the beginning of 2020, the first crossover of the company – this is a GV80. But while the crossover on the basis of the G80 sedan will be the first such car in the Genesis, it will definitely not be the last. Mr. Rafael also confirmed plans for a second, smaller crossover, which will be officially presented closer to the end of 2020 or in early 2021.
“We are very pleased to present the GV80 in about 11 months – next May / June,” said Genesis Chief Executive Officer Erwin Rafael. “Then, maybe in another 10 or 11 months, we will show a compact crossover built on the platform of the G70 sedan.”
The GV80 crossover will get most of the key components from the G80 sedan. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layout should be available, while the crossover will get the same aspirated 3.8-liter V6, 2.0-liter turbo engine, 3.3-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8, which equip the mid-size sedan G80.
Unfortunately, at the moment the details of the G70-based crossover are small. But the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engines and a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 from the sedan should also be offered on the crossover, as well as some exterior elements. Although we doubt that the G70 manual transmission will appear in a compact crossover.
