General Motors Presents Skoda Octavia RivalJune 15, 2020
We are talking about the Baojun RC-5 liftback, which is a joint product of the American GM and Chinese SAIC.
General Motors in conjunction with Chinese auto concern SAIC introduced the new Baojun RC-5. The presentation took place on Monday, June 15th. The novelty will be available in two body types – liftback and station wagon. The dimensions of the liftback are 4650x1806x1458 mm with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The station wagon turned out to be 35 mm longer. Externally, the car turned out to be very modern – an interesting design of the radiator grille, narrowed DRLs and massive headlights are striking in the front.
The silhouette of the liftback is more like a coupe-shaped crossover, which makes the car very competitive. The rear of the car looks very voluminous due to the shape of the tailgate, and the lights are connected by a strip in a monoblock.
As a power plant, customers will be offered the only engine option – they will become a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 147 hp. The motor will work in tandem with a 6-speed manual transmission or CVT, depending on the selected equipment. Buyers will be pleased with the low consumption of gasoline – in the combined cycle, the figure will be only 6.2 liters.
A minimal set of physical buttons is thrown inside the car – they control the climate, and everything else is on the modern infotainment system.
In the basic equipment, buyers will receive ABS, a stability control system, rear parking sensors and 2 airbags. And the equipment of the maximum configuration turned out to be quite rich – such a car will get climate control, a virtual instrument panel, all-round cameras, a leather interior, a panoramic roof with a sunroof. The exact price of the Baojun RC-5 will be announced when sales start. According to preliminary data, 63,800 yuan will be asked for the start version of the novelty. Perhaps the car will appear in other world markets, but already under the Chevrolet brand.
