Geely will have models named after the starsJanuary 30, 2020
The Chinese Geely has registered two new trade names – Antares and Sirius. The names are united by a common theme, because they are named after two of the brightest stars in the night sky. Certificates for new names are published in the Rospatent database.
For which models these names will be used is still unknown. We assumed that under them they would offer some of the existing models of the brand, and turned for comment to the press service of Geely. Representatives of the company replied that the brands were registered by the Geely central office located in the PRC, and for which models they intend to use them is still a secret.
In the Geely catalog there is another astronomy-related name – Polestar, i.e., the North Star. This is a sub-brand of Volvo Cars (part of Geely since 2010). Under it will be produced hybrid sports cars. While the sub-brand gamut consists of one model – the 600-horsepower Polestar 1 coupe, it is produced at the plant in Chengdu (and nowhere else). Logically, star names Geely can also be used for some hybrids or electric vehicles.
