Geely Cross Coupe debuted in the top version with a 238-horsepower Volvo engineJanuary 17, 2019
A Chinese brand Geely unveiled the exterior design of its coupe-shaped SUV. On sale model will appear in the current year
The new Geely crossover is still known by the intra-factory index FY11, the product name will be announced later. Teasers cross-coupe spread a couple of weeks ago, on those pictures the standard version of the model was captured. Now Geely has shown full-fledged photos, only on these frames there is a top-end “challenged” option. From the usual “coupe” its “charged” modification differs in red “rim” on the radiator grille, twin tailpipes of the exhaust system, red brake calipers and 20-inch discs.
Recall, FY11 was the first model of the brand Geely, built on the platform of CMA (Compact Modular Architecture), which was created by the Chinese together with Volvo (the Swedish brand belongs to Geely). The same platform underlies the Volvo XC40 and the Lynk & Co brand cars (a joint project of Geely and Volvo).
Characteristics of the cross-coupe in Geely have not yet disclosed, but the basic data have already appeared in the database of the Ministry of Industry of China. Thus, the length of the SUV is equal to 4605 mm, wheelbase – 2700 mm. According to the first indicator, the “Chinese” exceeds the platform Volvo XC40 (4425 mm), while the distance between the axes in the FY11 and the Swede is almost identical (in the XC40 – 2702 mm). At the same time, the Geely crossover is smaller than, for example, the BMW X4 (4752 and 2864 mm, respectively).
The base FY11 will be available with a 1.57 petrol turbo four with 177 hp. (255 Nm) – this is another joint development with Volvo, there is such a motor in the arsenal of the Volvo XC40, only the Swede produces 156 hp. and 265 Nm. The Geely FY11 Sporty is equipped with a two-liter Volvo T5 turbo four with a performance of 238 hp. (350 Nm). The certification body traditionally does not indicate the dynamic characteristics, as well as the boxes. Most likely, the “coupe” received a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. The model will still have hybrid versions based on the 1.5 engine. But whether FY11 has four-wheel drive is still unknown.
The company promises to publish all information about the cross-coupe in the near future. In the Chinese market, the novelty will be released before the end of this year. The crossover will probably be sent for export, but this will happen only a year or two after the start of sales in China.
Meanwhile, Geely will soon introduce another new product – a serial electric sedan, which is considered a budget alternative to the Tesla Model 3.
