At its plant in Zwickau (Germany), Volkswagen is going to start serial production of its fully electric models. Starting in 2020, 100,000 electric vehicles will leave the factory’s conveyors. In total, the brand management plans to build 16 new plants or modernize existing ones, where electric cars will be built.

Electric cars – before many automobile companies were rather skeptical about these vehicles. But already at the moment almost all the world’s automakers realized that the future of such cars. In particular, the American company Tesla helped them to understand this, which, in fact, popularized to a sufficient level of the vehicle with a fully electric power unit.

In a recent interview with Thomas Ulbrich, who is one of the brand’s top managers, it was possible to learn that the Volkswagen management plans to produce about 100,000 electric vehicles every year at its plant in Zwickau, Germany.[IP]&ua=[UA]&domain=[DOMAIN]&page=[PAGE]&secure=[SECURE]&language=[BROWSER_LANGUAGE]&bidfloor=[BIDFLOOR]&gdpr_consent=[GDPR_CONSENT]

It is reported that in order to remake the plant’s capacity for the production of electric cars, it was necessary to allocate an unprecedented amount of money. The capacities of the enterprise will be ready to fulfill the new task by 2020.

For the German brand, one of the main reasons for the decision to change the profile of the Zwickau plant was a diesel scandal or as it was called by the journalists “dieselgate”. To be precise, not the scandal itself was the cause, but its multimillion-dollar consequences. Now, the production of fully environmentally friendly vehicles for the brand is a chance that will help Volkswagen clean up its tarnished reputation. It is reported that with the capacity of the enterprise, which, as we have already said, will be redesigned for the production of electric vehicles, about 100,000 cars will annually go off. According to the plans of the brand management, such a pace can be reached by 2020.

The first model, the mass production of which is planned to start at the factory in Zwickau, will be the hatchback Volkswagen I. D. And then, all the subsequent electric models of the company will come to the company’s conveyors. According to Mr. Ulbrich, the re-design of the plant in Zwickau is the beginning of a strategy in which Volkswagen will smoothly switch to the production of only electric cars.
