Fresh reliability rating: Korean brands overtook allJune 20, 2019
The results of the study were unexpected.
American agency J.D. Power has published a list of companies that produce the most reliable and high-quality models. Genesis, Kia and Hyundai were higher than Japanese and European brands.
The rating was made on the basis of data on problems that drivers complained about during the first three months of ownership. Rarely, motorists scolded Genesis models – there were only 63 problems for 100 cars. In second place was Kia, and closes the top three Hyundai. Followed by American companies: Ford, Lincoln and Chevrolet. Japanese brands Toyota and Lexus entrenched at the seventh and eighth positions, respectively. All of the listed brands have a better result than the industry average: 93 problems identified per 100 vehicles.
At the bottom of the ranking is located the “German three” Mercedes, Audi and BMW, as well as Volvo and Volkswagen. Close the list of Land Rover and Jaguar.
Expert J.D. Power Dave Sargent believes that automakers should pay special attention to multimedia systems and driving assistants. Today, Korean brands are the leaders in these areas, which explains their primacy in the rating of quality and reliability.
At the same time, Sargent noted a trend towards an improvement in information and entertainment systems for all brands compared to last year. This is largely due to the fact that companies are following the trend towards easy-to-use and intuitively understandable media systems.
Speaking about the problems faced by the owners of the newly purchased cars, Sargent divides them into several categories. The first concerns local problems, such as the failure of the headlights, the second – difficulties with voice control, and the third – the possibilities of semi-autonomous systems that are overestimated by the driver. At the same time, in general, the percentage of complaints about new cars has declined by ten percent over ten years.
