Franz Toast: Accidents – part of the rider training processApril 13, 2019
Alexander Elbon crashed the car at the last minutes of the third session of the free races of the Chinese Grand Prix. The head of Toro Rosso, Franz Tost, said that such accidents are part of the training process of a young rider. Elbon’s participation in the qualification is questionable, since the team may not have time to restore the car.
Franz Toast: “Alex is fine. We talked with him and do not expect any problems with his health. Fortunately, modern cars are very safe. Such serious accidents are part of the learning process, we understand that. If the driver learns from his mistakes, such accidents are not a problem.
We’ll see if we can restore the car to qualification. First you need to understand the state of the monocoque. If everything is in order with him, then after that we will decide whether we will have time to prepare the car for the beginning of the session. We need to assess the condition of radiators, electronic components, wiring – these parts cannot be replaced in an hour or two, they need more time to be replaced.
