Formula E returns to the British capitalMarch 5, 2019
The new season of the electric series will be held in London on the banks of the Thames, a multi-year agreement has already been signed. This is reported by the foreign edition of Motosport.
The Formula E stage in London will take place on July 25 and 26, 2020. The 2.4 kilometer track consists of 23 turns, it will be rotated clockwise along the Royal Docks. For the first time in the history of the series, the starting grid will be located inside the building, namely, the ExCeL exhibition center.
Electric car races have already been held in London in 2015–2016, but this is where they ended, despite the agreement to hold the championship for 2016–2017. Local residents protested and the competition here had to be minimized.
The founder of the championship, Alejandro Agag, said that he was very excited about returning to the UK: “All motorsports series wants to hold a race in London. This has been our desire for a long time.” He added that for the capital this is also an important event, a kind of signal for combating air pollution inside the city and promoting green technologies.
The ExCeL course plan and the date of the event remain subject to FIA homologation and are awaiting approval by the World Council of Motorsport.
