Formula 1: point for the best lapMarch 6, 2019
For the past 11 years, riders have been awarded the DHL Fastest Lap Award for the largest number of fastest laps at the end of the season. However, tomorrow at a meeting of the FIA reward for such a circle may be revised, reports the publication RaceFans, citing its own source.
The meeting of the FIA World Council of Motorsports will be held tomorrow, and at it the chairmen will consider the possibility of scoring riders who have passed the fastest lap. Liberty Media also considered the pole score option, but was rejected.
F-1 owners conducted a survey among fans on the main issue. Most of them supported the proposal, considering that the struggle for the best time could revive the race at the entrance to the finish line.
If the initiative is approved, it is likely that it will be sent to an additional vote by the Strategic Group and the Formula 1 Commission. If everything goes well there, the World Council will immediately amend the regulations. Since before the start of the first Grand Prix there are less than two weeks.
