Formula 1: final day of pre-season tests
March 3, 2019Vettel and Hamilton completed the winter tests with the fastest results. The pilot of the Mercedes team finally came out of the “shadow”, but he did not have a split second.
The preseason tests of Formula 1 2019 have come to an end. Next time, the riders will take to the track in Melbourne on March 15 as part of the first training session. In the meantime, let’s look at the results of the eighth and final test day. All the drivers, except Max Verstappen (he went to C3), skated today on the softest Pirelli C5 tires.
The best result in the morning kept Sebastian Vettel, driving the fastest lap in 1: 16,221 and thus improving the yesterday’s result of his partner Charles Lecler. Perhaps he could have improved this time too, but more than an hour and a half before the end of the races his electrical system SF90 failed and the team said that they would not have time to repair everything.
Already at the end of the day, the active F1 champion Lewis Hamilton intensified. In the last hour, he worked for speed and his fastest time turned out to be 1: 16,224. Some 0.003 seconds separated him from the German.
At the end of the day, the third was the partner of the Briton Valtteri Bottas with a score of 1: 16,561. Then follow: 4) Nico Hulkenberg – 1: 16,843; 5) Denmark Kvyat – 1: 16,898; 6) Carlos Sainz – 1: 16,913; 7) Romain Grosjean – 1: 17,076; 8) Daniel Riccardo – 1: 17,114; 9) Kimi Raikkonen 1: 17,239; 10) Kevin Magnussen – 1: 17,565; 11) Max Verstappen – 1: 17,709; 12) Sergio Perez – 1: 17,791; 13) Robert Kubica – 1: 18,993.
