Ford will develop 2 electric cars on the Volkswagen platformSeptember 20, 2019
In July, Ford and Volkswagen announced a partnership in the development of electric cars: an American company intends to purchase 600,000 sets on the MEB platform with the goal of producing models designed for the European car market.
Handelsblatt also notes that there is the possibility of expanding ties between Ford and VW. This means that Ford is discussing with Volkswagen the possibility of producing another electric car.
“Yes, we touched on this topic,” the agency quoted Ford Europe CEO Stuart Rowley as saying. – You need to be aware that from an economic point of view it is pointless to make one car on MEB. Usually, if we talk about at least some profitability, at least 2 models are needed.
The German automaker also confirmed this information and said that it looks positively at this cooperation, despite the fact that Ford will become a competitor.
According to assumptions, Ford will begin to produce its electric cars in 2023. The assembly will be carried out at the corporation in Cologne. As noted, the production date was selected, in particular, for the reason that by this period the Fiesta model produced at the same factory will disappear from the family.
