Ford unveils smart mirror for TransitApril 2, 2021
Ford has introduced an electronic display for commercial Transit models that will replace the familiar rearview mirror.
This was reported by the press service of the manufacturer. An electronic screen will help the driver monitor the situation behind the car, especially if the car does not have windows in the van body.
The kit, in addition to the screen, installed instead of the usual salon mirror, includes an adaptive rear-view camera, which has a brightness control function. This will allow you to clearly see objects behind the car at any time of the day. In addition, the wide-angle lens provides twice the field of view than a conventional mirror.
This will help the driver better control their surroundings, such as when approaching a roundabout, changing lanes, or before turning into a lane.
Ford’s new electronic mirror will be especially useful for courier drivers who have to stop frequently in densely populated areas with heavy cyclist and pedestrian traffic. According to statistics, in 2019, this category of road users accounted for 70% of all fatal accidents in European cities.
The electronic mirror will be available as an option for Ford Transit and Transit Custom vans with windowless rear doors. You can order it from dealers of the brand at a price of 790 euros.
