Ford unveils Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 electric conceptApril 23, 2020
Ford Performance has developed a 1,400-hp battery-electric dragster.
According to representatives of the brand, the new Ford Mustang-based racing electric car received a battery whose capacity was not disclosed, and an unnamed number of electric motors with a total capacity of 1,400 horsepower and more than 1,500 Nm of torque. The power plant has a two-speed transmission. The Cobra Jet 1400 is expected to “cover a quarter mile in just 8 seconds at a speed of over 270 km / h.”
“We saw the Cobra Jet 1400 project as an opportunity to begin developing electric propulsion systems for racing cars. We already have experience in manufacturing such machines and performance indicators that we would like to compare and improve, ”said Mark Rushbrook, Global Head of Ford Performance Motorsports.
The latest Cobra Jet, made in 2018, was equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 Coyote, which had a return of about 1,000 horsepower. When Hennessey put on the 2016 Cobra Jet dynamometer, this car, equipped with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 supercharged, produced 871 hp. power on wheels.
The new Cobra Jet 1400 will debut “in drag racing competitions where fans, the media and competitors will be able to meet the race car and see exactly what it is capable of on asphalt”, which will give us the opportunity to compare the model with the Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro. It is possible that similar technologies will be used in future serial electric cars of the brand.
