Ford Transit-2019: a new diesel and a completely redesigned interiorSeptember 18, 2018
A commercial vehicle with a payload capacity of 2 tons was presented by Ford at the international exhibition in Hanover.
Sales of the new Ford Transit in Europe will begin in the summer of 2019. Externally, the model changed little: it was corrected the front bumper, the headlamps remained the same shape, however, they were supplemented with contour LED DRLs around the perimeter. The tail lights also now have a slightly different shape.
The salon of the renovated commercial car was redecorated much more noticeably. Among the changes is a new steering wheel, another front panel with coasters on the sides, and an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system in the center. Under the touch screen, the microclimate control unit was moved.
The engine line still remained 105-, 130- and 170-strong variants, but it was supplemented by the modernized two-liter diesel EcoBlue, whose power grew up to 185 hp. The maximum torque of this engine is 415 Nm. Ford increased the efficiency of combustion by increasing the peak pressure to 2,200 bar in the fuel injection system. Friction in the engine is reduced due to a thinner skirt (compared to the construction of a cast aluminum piston), and the so-called “parasitic loss” – due to the fact that the oil supply is adjusted to the needs.
As an option, Ford offers an additional battery that accumulates recuperative energy on braking: it is charged with an electric motor that helps the diesel engine (for example, on the uphill). According to the manufacturer, this system allows you to save fuel. In general, fuel efficiency is increased by 7%.
Presented in Hanover, Ford Transit in addition to the existing 6-speed manual gearbox will be equipped with a 10-step “automatic” of its own design with the adaptive programming programming of gear changes. However, this version will be available only to rear-wheel drive versions of the model and not earlier than in the spring of 2020.
At Ford Transit vans with “automatic” for the first time will be “smart” adaptive cruise control, which is able to read the terrain. The list of equipment also includes parking assistant, blind zone control, pedestrian detection and collision avoidance, works at night (in case pedestrians are lit by headlights).
The production of the new Transit for Europe will be established at the plant in Kocaeli (Turkey). It also produces Transit Custom. An updated commercial car will reach the Russian market, but the company does not yet name the terms. The current version of the model comes off the assembly line of the JV Ford Sollers in Yelabuga (Tatarstan).
