Ford taught its cars to kill coronavirusMay 28, 2020
On the automaker’s website, information appeared that Ford experts had developed a way to effectively disinfect police modifications to their cars.
The company notes that police often do not have time to thoroughly disinfect their car interiors. But since the coronavirus does not survive at high temperatures, the climate system helps to decontaminate the car. So, within 15 minutes, the temperature inside the car is kept at 56 degrees Celsius, which allows you to get rid of the COVID-19 virus.
“Nobody wants this feature to turn on by accident, so activating it is a rather complicated process – so you can keep track of what is happening,” said Bill Gabing, head of the passenger car and SUV department.
At the same time, cars do not need to be equipped – such technology will be introduced when updating the software. In older models, the disinfection mode will be activated using a special device connected to the car’s diagnostic socket, in newer cars, everything is activated using a special key combination on the cruise control control panel.
This method, according to Ford experts, allows you to kill up to 99% of viruses in the cabin. At the same time, scientists from Ohio State University helped in the development of the system.
