Ford talked about the most powerful and fast Focus ST in historyJune 25, 2019
The new Ford Focus ST, equipped with a 280-strong “four”, was comparable in dynamics to the Honda Civic Type R
Ford has called the main characteristics of the new generation “charged” version of the Focus hatchback. The car, which used the technology sports car Mustang, F-150 Raptor pickup and supercar GT, became the most powerful and fast modification of the model with the ST index.
Ford Focus ST is equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine of the EcoBoost family with a dual-channel turbine. The unit develops 280 hp and 400 N · m of torque. The transmission is a six-speed manual transmission, and from autumn 2019 a seven-speed robotized gearbox with two clutches will be available.
The engine uses an innovative leveling system for the delay of the turbine, which leaves the throttle ajar for three more seconds after the driver released the accelerator pedal, which allows acceleration of the thrust at low engine speeds. This technology is used, for example, on the GT supercar and the F-150 Raptor extreme pickup truck.
Hot hatch is able to recruit the first 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. – for example, exactly the same amount goes to acceleration from a standstill to 100 km / h from a 320-horsepower Honda Civic Type R. The maximum speed is forcibly limited by electronics at around 250 km per hour.
For the first time, an electronically controlled front differential entered the standard equipment of a hot hatch. Plus, the Ford Focus ST received an electronic power steering, which responded 15% faster than the new Fiesta ST. In addition, the hatchback received a system for choosing from several control electronics modes: Normal, Slippery / Wet and Sport.
The new Ford Focus ST also has a modification with a two-liter diesel engine rated at 190 horsepower. The novelty is available as a five-door hatchback and station wagon.
