Ford talked about its new 7.3 liter V8 engine.February 11, 2019
According to representatives of the American brand, the new engine can fit in the F-150 pickup, as well as the sports coupe Mustang. But, most likely, none of them will receive it.
Last week in Chicago, Ford introduced the updated F-Series Heavy Duty family of full-size pickups. A new 7.3-liter supercharged V8 petrol engine was also shown. So far there is no data on its power, performance and efficiency, but company representatives expect that it will become “the most powerful V8 engine in its class.”
“This is technically possible, but does it make sense at all? Actually, no, ”said Mr. Levine.
MotorAuthority has had the opportunity to talk with Ford official spokesman Mike Levine, who said that the new engine can be installed on the current generation Mustang coupe and on the F-150 pickup.
He noted that the new V8 is a real cargo engine with an iron block. Although it uses a new top-valve architecture with a cam block and forged steel crankshaft, it remains a motor specifically designed for heavy trucks.
This means that it is too heavy for the Mustang, the motor will affect its weight balance. But various tuning companies may well try to do it. We could see the new V8 under the hood of an F-150 pickup, although it’s unlikely the guys from Ford decide on that. Similar versions of the car will be very expensive.
