Ford starts massive cuts to workers in factories in Europe
March 18, 2019Ford is starting to implement its plan for a radical restructuring of European business in order to reduce structural costs and increase profits.
To speed up the implementation of the plan and return to sustainable profitability, the automaker announced that it would offer voluntary dismissal programs for employees in Germany and the UK. In the first case we are talking about the dismissal of more than 5,000 workers, including temporary staff. For the UK, the total number of shrinking jobs has yet to be determined.
With regard to the ultimate goal of Ford, the company will create three customer-oriented business groups in Europe: commercial vehicles, passenger transport and imports. In addition, Ford plans to reduce the complexity of existing products and optimize the most favorable vehicle configurations.
Simply put, the American company can reduce the number of models produced as a whole (previously it was announced that the minivans will be discontinued), will count on crossovers and SUVs, and the production of some models can be transferred from Europe to other countries.
