Ford recalls almost 42 thousand carsMay 14, 2020
Ford will run several recall campaigns in North America that will affect a total of 41,955 Ford Expedition, Mustang, Transit Connect, and Lincoln Navigator cars.
Expedition and Navigator SUVs of model year 2020, which are equipped with a faulty safety mechanism of the Pre-Collision Assist system, fall under the first service campaign. The system may not detect or reduce the risk of severity of a head-on collision and may actually increase the risk of an accident and injury if the driver relies on it.
The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this problem. A total of 25,081 vehicles in the United States and 1,0 106 in Canada are subject to recall.
Dealers reprogram the equipment control module, ABS, instrument panel and headlight control modules using the new software and reset the tire pressure monitoring system.
The second review will affect 10,460 cars in the United States, 158 in Canada and 17 in Mexico. In this case, a malfunction was detected in Mustang models 2019-2020, built in Flat Rock from April 26 to October 10, 2019, and Expedition 2019, which rolled off the assembly lines in Kentucky in October 2019.
The company said that in these cars a warning message and a sound signal indicating to the driver that the transmission is not in “parking” mode when the engine is turned off and the door is closed, is active for only three seconds. However, it should remain active for 10 seconds, and a warning message should be displayed for 30 minutes.
Due to this problem, the driver may not know that the gearbox is not in parking mode and may get out of the car, which will lead to unintentional movement of the vehicle, and this increases the risk of injury and / or accident. Technicians reprogram the dashboard to get rid of this problem.
The third and final recall affects 5,088 Transit Connect 2014-2017 units in the United States and 45 in Canada. All of them were built in Valencia from July 17, 2014 to October 1, 2016 and are equipped with a panoramic roof, which has a large clearance with the body.
In most cases, this leads to an increase in wind noise and water leaks, but in more extreme cases the hatch can completely separate from the vehicle. Ford service centers will clean and reinstall panoramic glass roofs in damaged cars.
