Ford plans to create a pickup based on the FocusDecember 13, 2018
It is already known that the new model of the American automaker will receive the name Courier. The car will be presented in 2021. In the current model range, the novelty will be located on the step below the Ranger pickup.
The guys from Ford, obviously, are serious about creating a small pickup on the platform of the new (4th generation) Focus. As our colleagues from the Ford Authority publication managed to find out, the brand’s engineers have already completed work on developing a new pickup truck and will soon begin full-scale tests — Ford Courier prototypes will be tested on the road.
It is known that the smallest pickup in the model range of the automaker will receive most of the same components and assemblies as the latest version of the Focus at the moment.
By and large, it will be the same car, only in the rear part of the cargo platform will be installed. According to the Ford management plan, the official presentation of the novelty is scheduled for 2021. In the current model lineup of the brand, the Ford Courier will be placed one step below the compact Ranger pickup.
In fact, it was not the first time that the guys from Ford were turning a non-truck model into a pickup truck – for example, it was with the baby Fiesta. We would like to note that back in 2016, representatives of the American brand filed an application for registration of the product name Courier to the United States Patent Office. This application was approved only on June 26, 2018.
Earlier it was reported that the production of a new pickup will be arranged at the Ford plant in Mexico.
