Ford may release a mini version of the Mustang Mach-E on the Volkswagen platformDecember 26, 2019
The first electric car of the American concern caused a real stir among fans of the brand, electric cars, as well as the Mustang model. Many liked it, many criticized the company. Nevertheless, we see the start of a new line of cars.
At the end of November, Ford and Volkswagen met as part of a discussion of cooperation. During the meeting, the conversation turned to the possibilities of using the VW Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform for Ford cars. And it seems that it could be used for another electric car with a Mustang design. But there is a problem with the adaptation of the platform for cars of the American brand – the hood is too short.
Murat Guler, chief designer of Ford’s European division, noted that the younger brother of the Mustang Mach-E will get an excellent design, but still be a crossover. The MEB platform would fit perfectly. It is capable of supporting single and twin engine layout, with front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. But the car windshield on this platform is too close to the front wheel, which makes it difficult to create a design similar to the Mustang.
So far, the decision to develop a new crossover has not been made. It all depends on how successful the Ford Mustang Mach-E is. The first deliveries will begin at the end of next year, and most models and configurations will go on sale in 2021.
Meanwhile, Ford recalls more than 600 thousand cars due to faulty brakes. The American concern is forced to send hundreds of thousands of cars for repairs due to a defect in the hydraulic control unit.
