Ford Maverick accessories can be 3D printedJune 11, 2021
Ford has developed an integrated FITS system that allows owners of the Maverick compact pickup to 3D print their own car accessories.
The 2022 Ford Maverick made a lot of buzz with its affordable price tag and a host of nifty features. One that has tons of creative uses is the integrated FITS system, designed so that compact pickup truck owners can fit their own many accessories inside the truck. But Ford is taking FITS a step further by allowing owners to 3D print their own pickup accessories.
Ford is working to publicly publish the FITS slot geometry for open source use, giving owners the ability to create and print their own accessories beyond what Ford has to offer.
The available “package” of accessories already includes cup holders, storage box or trash can, cord organizer, double hook for hanging bags and under-seat storage dividers, as well as many other goodies that Ford is developing. It is located at the rear of the center console. The automaker says owners can store their accessories under the rear seats.
There is no doubt that owners will find extremely creative ways to use FITS, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with. It is also highly likely that the system will be able to create an online community of authors sharing their ideas and printing drawings of their own accessories. It also gives owners some control over how they use their vehicles, which is always welcome. Ford could easily have kept the geometry of the FITS connectors under wraps and launched its own line of accessories.
The 2022 Ford Maverick goes on sale this fall. The automaker is already taking orders for a pickup truck that offers a lot at an affordable price. Its starting price is $ 19,995. This version of the novelty is equipped with an 8.0-inch screen of the infotainment system, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Ford Co-Pilot 360, two 12V sockets.
