Snapshots of the new EcoSport Active leaked online a week and a half ago, but that didn’t stop the American automaker from making it to its previously announced debut date.

The new EcoSport Active, complementing the Fiesta Active, Focus Active and Ka + Active, attempts to refresh the aging small crossover. Like its predecessor Active models, the new car is prepared for “outdoor adventures and active lifestyles.” It has slightly more ground clearance than the regular EcoSport, and is equipped with plastic protective linings around the wheel arches, as is done by almost all manufacturers of “off-road” versions. However, in this case, the engineers also modified the chassis, strengthened the suspension and the limited slip differential.

The car received an exclusive set of 17-inch wheels and visually stands out with black accents outside and new eco-leather upholstery inside. Active is positioned as the top-end of the model, which means it has features such as cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen, heated and electrically folding mirrors, LED daytime running lights, tinted windows and power windows at the front and rear.

Designed primarily for the European market, the EcoSport Active will be built at Ford’s Craiova, Romania plant, along with other versions and the new Puma / Puma ST crossover. Locally, it will be offered with a turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine in a 125 PS configuration and a 6-speed manual transmission.

In Romania, the newest car was estimated at 21,100 euros, which is a lot, considering that for this money it was possible to buy a well-equipped Puma, but there is a special discount at the start of sales, reducing the price to 15,250 euros.
