Ford launches electric postal van productionOctober 10, 2018
Ford has started mass production of StreetScooter Work XL electric mail van. The model is based on the Transit model and is designed specifically for the Deutsche Post. According to the press service of the American automaker, about 180 Ford employees will collect up to 16 electric vans daily, thus, the annual production volume will be about 3,500 cars.
The cargo compartment of the van was 20 cubic meters, which allows the electric car to take about 200 parcels on board. Load capacity – up to 1 275 kg. Cars will be offered with sets of batteries with a capacity from 30 to 90 kWh, thanks to which they will be able to travel without recharging from 80 to 200 kilometers.
The developers noted that the use of each such van will allow saving up to 1,900 liters of diesel fuel annually and preventing the release into the atmosphere of about 5,000 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Deutsche Post DHL plans to use StreetScooter WORK XL to deliver goods in German cities. The possibility of delivering green vans to other customers is currently being considered.
Ford plans to invest 9.5 billion euros in the development of 40 electrified models by 2022. Of these, 16 cars will be fully electric, battery powered.
