Ford knew gearbox issuesDecember 16, 2019
We are talking about the PowerShift transmission, which was installed on the Focus and Fiesta models.
Ford has long known problems with the PowerShift gearbox. Many were even able to experience this on themselves. And one of the sources shared the information that the American auto giant knew about the difficulties, but decided to use this transmission option anyway. Recall that such a gearbox began to be installed on Fiesta cars, starting in 2011, and on third-generation Focus cars since 2012. Even before these cars were put into mass production, some of the company’s engineers said that difficulties could arise in the future, but Ford was determined to bring the cars to the market.
Most often, the problem is that the car suddenly shifts to neutral and refuses to continue driving.
Thousands of people all over the world have faced such a malfunction. The difficulty lies in the fact that spare parts and repairs are very expensive. After the publication of information in The Detroit Free Press about the fact that the company knew about the problems, 13 thousand lawsuits were filed against it. A little later, Ford offered compensation for a total of $ 35 million. However, the case is still under consideration, since such an option is considered very beneficial only for the automaker.
