About why Ford was in a difficult situation, we told in detail in September, and here we only briefly recall that new trends in the automotive industry (electric cars and UAVs) and the fall in demand for traditional cars force the company to carry out large-scale business restructuring and alliances with competitors. Already next week, within the framework of the Detroit Auto Show, an alliance with the Volkswagen concern may be officially announced, and today the press service of Ford has issued a statement by the vice-president of the European division of Stephen Armstrong about the company’s nearest plans in the region.
So, Ford of Europe plans to significantly reduce the range of traditional passenger models, but officially only announced the termination of the release of the C-MAX and Grand C-MAX compact cars in the German city of Zarlui (the exact dates will depend on negotiations with trade unions) and the collapse of the production broadcasts in French Bordeaux in August of this year. In the future, most likely, Mondeo and Galaxy / S-Max will go under the knife, and the production of a subcompact Fiesta can be transferred to Brazil or India, that is, only Focus and models created on its platform – mainly crossovers – will remain from the passenger line in Europe. . In general, it is claimed that the model line will become “more targeted,” that is, it will be possible to forget about the former diversity. Niche models (mainly sports cars) will be imported to Europe from the USA. Well, of course, all that can be electrified. Earlier, Ford announced its intention to bring 16 new electric vehicles to the world market by 2022, including a budget crossover, but now it is unclear which of them will be original and which will be converted by Volkswagen.
The key segment for Ford in Europe will be commercial vehicles, and the headquarters will be concentrated in the UK – it is assumed that Brexit will either not take place at all, or will pass under the condition that the duty-free zone between Great Britain and the European Union is preserved.
