Ford improved off-road capability Expedition LimitedDecember 21, 2019
The American company has expanded the range of off-road versions of FX4
Ford has launched the sale of large Expedition Limited Edition SUVs with the FX4 off-road package. This design differs from the usual Expedition Limited in terms of additional underbody protection, a recalibrated suspension, reinforced radiator, special decor and 18-inch mud mud Michelin tires.
A feature of the FX4 version is seven additional plates protecting the steering, engine, transmission, turbocharger, fuel tank and transfer case. In addition, Ford experts retuned shock absorbers, increased the angle of entry, added rubber door sills and floor mats. Still off-road, the driver can be helped by all-round cameras.
Under the hood of the Expedition Limited FX4 is the same 3.5-liter gasoline engine with 381 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. The unit works in conjunction with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with a two-stage transfer case. “Off-road” modifications put electronically controlled rear differential. The maximum mass of the towed trailer is 4173 kilograms.
Ford marketers believe that the FX4’s performance, based on the popular mid-range Limited, will allow customers to “enjoy the rough terrain without giving up luxury and comfort.” At the start of Expedition sales, the FX4 package was available only for the base version of the XLT, which does not have a leather interior, wood inserts in the interior, three-zone climate control, auto start and advanced electrical adjustments.
Surcharge for the FX4 package is $ 2035. It can be ordered for both the short base version of Expedition, and for the Expedition MAX with an extended rear overhang.
Prices for the Ford Expedition Limited FX4 will start at $ 71.9 thousand – this is about $ 1000 cheaper than the SUV in the special version of King Ranch and $ 2000 less than the initial price of the top version of Platinum.
