Ford has come up with a way to save fuel by using the backlightDecember 12, 2019
The American automaker Ford said about a new option to reduce the cost of heating and air conditioning in the car. To do this, you can change the lighting in the cabin so that passengers feel warm or cool.
During testing, Ford changed the 10-seater Transit minibus, making a bright LED backlight in the model’s interior. It became clear that the “flooded” with red light interior creates a feeling of warmth for passengers, and they rarely increase the temperature of climate control. Blue lighting began to make the subjects feel cool, and they also used air conditioning less often.
The results of these tests were obtained after the company’s experts during the tests simulated a winter trip at a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius and a summer trip at 30 degrees Celsius. In these cases, after the experiments, a reduction in the energy consumption of the air conditioning system was recorded – by 3.3% for cooling and 2.5% for heating.
As Ford said, saving on heating and air conditioning can reduce fuel consumption on cars with an internal combustion engine and seriously increase the range of electric vehicles, after all, because of the air conditioner, the distance that a car can cover from a battery charge can be reduced by half. At the same time, the company aims to achieve savings when using solar panels that provide climate control.
