At the Detroit Auto Show, the world premiere of two more versions of the crossover Explorer of a new generation. The fate of the model in Russia, however, as well as the brand as a whole, is open to question.

The sixth generation standard Explorer crossover debuted at a special Ford event in Detroit last week. Recall, the model has replaced the front-drive platform D4 with a transverse motor arrangement to a new CD6 platform with a longitudinal engine arrangement and permanent rear-wheel drive (the new Lincoln Aviator is also based on the CD6 platform). And today, already in the framework of the Detroit Auto Show, the Ford team presented a hybrid version of the all-terrain vehicle and the “charged” Explorer ST.

“Hot” version prepared by the sports division Ford Performance. Externally, Explorer ST crossover differs from other modifications with a black grille with a pattern of cells, black 21-inch wheels of the original design, and the presence of red brake calipers. An inscription appeared on the hood with the model name. In the cabin – other seats, virtual dashboard included in the list of standard equipment. But the multimedia system with a vertical touchscreen with a diagonal of 10.1 inches was not available to the “charged” all-terrain vehicle – a more compact tablet adorns the center.

The engine is the same as that of the standard Explorer 2020 – bit-turbo V6 3.0 EcoBoost, but the engine output was increased from 370 to 405 hp, and the maximum torque increased from 515 to 563 Nm. Like the usual cross, Explorer ST is equipped with a ten-speed automatic, the drive in the hot version is only full. The maximum speed is 230 km / h, the company did not disclose the acceleration time to 100 km/h. Even the Ford Explorer ST reconfigured suspension and steering, plus the model provides for “more effective” brakes.

About hybrid information less. The design of this version did not change, the only difference from the standard model is the Hybrid nameplate, located on the tailgate. The installation unit of the hybrid Ford Explorer included an “aspirated” V6 3.3, an electric motor and 10АКП, the lithium-ion battery was placed under the second row seats. Explorer Hybrid’s combined kickback – 323 hp The hybrid crossover will be available with both rear and all-wheel drive: in the first case, the range will exceed 805 kilometers, data about the “long range” all-wheel drive car yet.

In the States, sales of hybrid and ST-versions will start in the summer simultaneously with the standard new Explorer.
