The American company Ford has created a car for the police on the basis of its popular model Explorer. Recall, this automaker is considered a regular supplier of transport for US police departments. The new “police” special version was named 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility. A total of 8,000 such SUVs will be produced, about a thousand of them will receive a hybrid power plant.
Ford Explorer’s materiality for the police is not much different from an SUV sold in regular car dealerships. But the “stuffing” they are completely different. So, by the efforts of the developers, in the cabin of the policeman Explorer there was a place to accommodate not one, but two portable computers at once. And from the dashboard you can now control the special alarm and siren.
In the movement of the new special version leads 318-horsepower engine with a displacement of 3.3 liters. In addition to a powerful engine, this SUV gets enhanced brake system, upgraded transmission and larger diameter wheels. The SUV frame has become heavier at 80 kilograms, which allows it to withstand collisions at speeds of up to 120 km / h.
What price tag the manufacturer will put on this special version is not reported yet. According to the forecasts of the portal Cnet.com, the difference between the cost of a policeman Ford Explorer and a serial one can be about $ 3,500. Of course, the special version will be more expensive. Additional costs will pay off within a year – due to a more economical motor.
