Ford E-Transit electric van prepares for testing in summer 2022May 9, 2021
Ford has begun a process of accelerating development of its new E-Transit, which has previously been spotted by spies. The American automaker has already acquired a fleet of prototypes that it will test in real conditions starting next summer.
The new Ford E-Transit has previously been caught in spy camera lenses as a static model on board an auto transporter, as well as on the road during some tests carried out by the British headquarters in Danton. The American brand is continuing its test program for its new electric van, which will debut in the spring of 2022, but from now on, according to Ford, the tests will take place under real-world conditions.
The company already has a fleet of prototypes of this electric van, which will be in daily use over a period of time starting this summer. Selected freight companies, utilities and delivery services will use the large-capacity commercial electric vehicle E-Transit on roads in cities in Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The electric Transit is based on the current generation of the commercial model, although it uses an all-new, more powerful propulsion system capable of moving the model, which will offer a maximum payload of 1.6 to 1.9 tonnes. Ford will also offer the new electric Transit in this special configuration, opening up new possibilities for the professional market, ranging from different roof heights with customizable chassis options to traditional refrigerated isotherms.
The Ford E-Transit is powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 269 hp. and an instant torque of 430 Nm, which is powered by a battery with a useful capacity of 67 kWh, offering a maximum range of 350 kilometers. In the commercial, the Zero Emission Transit features a 400 volt charging system and a 2.3 kW on-board generator. The system, dubbed “Pro Power Onboard”, according to the American brand, is the only one in Europe in its category to have additional electrical power to connect additional tools.
The E-Transit will also receive new features: it will be the brand’s first commercial vehicle in Europe to be equipped with the fourth generation Ford Sync multimedia platform. The system has a 12-inch touchscreen, voice control, navigation functionality and wireless upgrade capabilities – strong arguments for maintaining the brand’s leadership in the European commercial sector.
