Ford canceled inflatable seat beltsAugust 2, 2020
The new Ford F-150 has many different grilles, many different options, but it still lacks one unusual detail – air belts.
CarsDirect revealed that Ford has decided not to fit the new Ford F-150 pickup with one unusual element – inflatable seat belts for the second row. But the pickup of the previous generation had them. Indeed, the F-150 will not have inflatable belts. Even more, the company gradually decided to get rid of such an element in its other models, as they were updated.
The Ford concern showed inflatable belts in 2009, and in 2010 the first production car with such equipment was released – the “fifth” Explorer. Later, the developers implemented this innovation on a number of other models. Technology even had imitators.
Eleven years ago, Vice President of Security Susan Sischke gave a very high opinion of the development, because it combines two technologies that have been saving lives for many years. The belts are inflated with compressed gas through special buckles. The cushion strap unfolds more slowly than a regular airbag, but reduces the load on the chest of the passenger, including a child or elderly person.
