Ford came up with an analog of car number plates for dronesMarch 16, 2018
In the future flying drones can begin to equip with a special light code – the analogue of a car number plates. The development of such a device is now occupied by Ford specialists. According to the press service of the American brand, this innovation will help to identify the drone from a distance and quickly find its owner.
“The ability to quickly identify UAVs will ensure their safe and responsible use in the airspace,” – the automaker said in a statement.
This offer was the first from Ford after the company joined the aviation regulatory committee of the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA). The company offered to affix to the hull of the UAV code of 10 figures, which the FAA provides owners of drones when registering. To identify it, specialists want to use flight lights that can transmit 10-digit code in a binary system.
The company explained that light signals can be deciphered using a camera and special software. For this, for example, the capabilities of a standard smartphone are enough. This will allow any observer to identify the drone and, if necessary, transfer his police number.
