Ford added a full drive of artificial intelligence to Edge and Edge STSeptember 12, 2018
Crossover Ford Edge taught to switch very quickly from the front drive to the full
Ford has supplemented the all-wheel-drive system on the Edge crossover with a computer-based platform based on artificial intelligence. It can switch between the driving modes in a fraction of a second, based on data coming from dozens of sensors.
The intelligent system, called the all-wheel-drive disconnect, automatically switches from the front drive to the full drive, receiving information from the anti-slip and anti-lock systems. In addition, she knows when the wipers are turned on, whether the trailer tows a trailer and what temperature is on the street.
The algorithm developed by Ford uses the principles of fuzzy logic and can determine for 10 milliseconds whether to connect or disconnect the all-wheel drive. At the same time, the computing platform processes information from several sources at the same time, which improves the efficiency of the entire system.
According to the manufacturer, “smart” all-wheel drive allows you to save fuel: if an ordinary car with a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost consumes 12.38 liters per 100 kilometers in the city, then equipped with the new system spends 11.2 liters.
Earlier, Ford added to the rigging of the F-150 Raptor pickup the off-road cruise control Trail Control. The system can monitor throttle position and braking force on each of the wheels, and also helps to get out of the sand in case of a jam.
