For sale put DeLorean, who knows how to “ride” on waterOctober 31, 2019
Last bid for “amphibian from the future” reached $ 5,555
At the Bring a Trailer auction, a hovercraft appeared, which looks like DeLorean from the movie Back to the Future. To date, the latest rate has reached $ 5,555.
The construction of the DeLorean waterfowl began 11 years ago, in 2008, and was completed four years later, in 2012. The ship is based on the Universal Hovercraft UH-13PT, and on top of it is a home-made body made of plywood, foam and fiberglass, repeating the shape of the legendary car from “Back to the Future”. The owner even painted it in stainless steel to give more resemblance to the original.
As a power plant, a single-cylinder engine and a 24-inch screw are used, as well as a two-cylinder engine for 627 cubic meters. The “ship from the future” even has lifting doors of the “gull wing” type, like its prototype from the film.
According to the seller, the vessel can accelerate to 50 kilometers per hour on the water, but only under ideal conditions – in bad weather, he recommends to refrain from traveling altogether, since he only recently glued the stratified flooring and repaired the translucent “skirt” on which the vessel soars.
The cabin can accommodate two people – the captain and one passenger. Both chairs are mounted on Velcro, so they can be removed and rearranged anywhere. Real windows were installed in the doors of the “car”, but the creator decided to make the windshield removable – at high speed it protects against splashes, but it greatly reduces visibility, and splashes still enter the cabin through the sealant.
The owner installed another engine this summer, replaced the cylinder head gasket, filled the generator with epoxy to protect it from rust, changed the battery and fuel elements: tubes, filter and pump, and also remade the wiring, equipping it with waterproof connectors and switches.
