Florida will build 10 ports for flying taxis in 2021
February 23, 2021Florida, USA, plans to build at least 10 ports for flying vehicles in 2021. Such sites will be created by Lilium, which has already developed five-seater air taxis with a maximum flight range of 300 km.
The ports will allow passengers to get to their destination in Florida in minutes, as the plane can reach a maximum speed of 300 km / h. Given the number of ports, the company’s goal is to provide 140 million passengers arriving in Florida with fast vehicles anywhere within the state. The site autoevolution reports.
“Nearly all 20 million Florida residents live within 30 minutes of our vertiport, and the state’s 140 million annual visitors will be able to quickly reach their destination,” said Lilium COO Remo Gerber.
Vertical Landing and Takeoff (VTOL) vehicles were specially built for dense urban areas as they require less space than a standard aircraft. In addition, they create less noise, and if equipped with electric motors, they reduce emissions to zero.
The first location to build a vertiport in Florida will be announced this spring.
As AutoTimesNews previously reported, the world’s first port for electric and autonomous air transport will be built in the UK this year. Its territory will be 60% smaller than that of a conventional helipad. Using innovative construction, such ports can be installed in a matter of days.
