Belonging to the concern SAIC brand MG introduced a new MG HS SUV – the third in its line.

Crossover HS is a serial embodiment of the concept of MG X-motion, debuting at the Beijing Motor Show in April this year. It was assumed that the production model will be built on the basis of the frame SUV Roewe RX8 (like MG, the Roewe brand also belongs to SAIC), but the nearest “relative” of HS was the “steamer” Roewe RX5. At the heart of the RX5 is the SSA platform with multi-link rear suspension, on the same platform is also created cross MG GS.

The length of the MG HS is 4 574 mm, the width is 1,876 mm, the height is 1,664 mm, the wheelbase is 2,720 mm in size. The RX5 crossover is more compact: length and width – 4 545 and 1 855 mm, wheelbase – 2,700 mm, while the “Roewe” is higher (1,719 mm).

In the HS arsenal there are: a virtual assembly that changes color and “special effects” depending on the driving mode (Eco, Normal, Sport, Super Sport), panoramic roof, LED optics, multimedia system with a large touchscreen (multimedia can be controlled from a smartphone) and background interior lighting (64 colors). In addition, the crossover received a set of electronic assistants, called MG Pilot, it includes: monitoring systems for blind areas, warnings about approaching cars when leaving parking in reverse, tracking markup.

The new MG will be available with petrol turbo four 1.5 and 2.0 with a power of 169 and 220 hp respectively. Data on the boxes yet. Roewe RX5 is equipped with the same motors: a 1.5-liter engine combines with a six-speed manual or seven-speed preselective robotic transmission with dry clutches, a two-liter – with a six-speed robotic transmission with wet clutches. The RX5 2.0 has a version with a multi-plate clutch for connecting the rear axle, and MG HS will probably have the same option. By the way, the RX5 is still available with hybrid and electrical installations. It is expected that the “green” version will appear in the crossover MG.

In China, sales of HS start in September this year. Most likely, the novelty will be the most expensive model in the cross-line of the brand. Recall, under the brand MG today produce two more SUV: the already mentioned GS and compact ZS. The first cross in the Middle Kingdom costs 98,800 yuan, the second will cost a minimum of 73,800 yuan. Both SUVs are available in the historical homeland of MG – in the UK, so that HS will certainly get to the British dealers.
