The truck of the Italian brand reincarnated in the Ram 1000. The premiere of the brand-changing model was held at the Colombia Motor Show.

Pickup Fiat Toro debuted in 2016, its production is established in Brazil. The car is designed for South America, although the model has not reached Colombia. However, without a truck with a fairly original design, this country will not be abandoned: the Ram 1000 is represented at the exhibition in Bogota, which differs from Toro only in emblems.

Recall, Toro is built on a stretched version of the platform Small US Wide 4 × 4, which also underlies the Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass. Platform implies a load-bearing structure of the body, a transverse arrangement of the motor and an independent rear suspension.

In Colombia, they showed the Ram 1000 with the EtorQ 1.8 petrol engine with a power of 130 hp. and six-speed automatic transmission. In the Brazilian market, this engine can still work on ethanol – the return of this version is 139 hp. (power of the local petrol version – 135 hp). Also in Brazil, Fiat Toro can be bought with the Tigershark 2.4 (174/186 hp) and MultiJet II 2.0 turbo diesel (170 hp). Gearboxes – 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic Aisin or 9-speed automatic ZF, drive – front or full.

Prices and dates for the start of sales of the Ram 1000 are not announced, there is no information about whether the car will get out of Colombia. By the way, earlier it was reported that Ram is planning to release another new pickup for South America – already an independent model that looks like the Ram 1500 of the last generation. It was assumed that this particular truck will receive an index of 1000. Apparently, the original new Ram will still be called differently. Well, or twin Fiat Toro will remain “exclusive” for Colombia.

Meanwhile, under the American brand Ram has long been produced “clones” of models of other brands of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) concern. For example, in Mexico they sell the Ram 700 pickup truck and Promaster Rapid, which are the twins of Fiat Strada and Fiorino, respectively. Ram Promaster and Promaster City vans are available in the US, that is, converted by Fiat Ducato and Doblo. There is a Ram and a “clone” of a non-FCA brand in the line: a couple of years ago the Ram 1200 pick-up was introduced in the Emirates – under this name is the pre-reform Mitsubishi L200.
