Fiat released the latest Punto hatchbackAugust 9, 2018
With the last descended from the assembly line of hatch Punto, FCA Concern is completing the production of the model. A small Italian was produced for 25 years and managed to change three generations before going into history. This was reported by the Italian edition of Motor1.
The Motor1 edition writes that the release of Fiat Punto was completed a few days ago and it is not planned to replace it. The moment is historic not only for the Italian car industry and motorists, but for the workers at the FCA plant in Melfi, who noted the “departure” of the model in Facebook. For the first time in its history for many years, the brand remains without an important figure in the heavy B-segment.
First of all, it was not profitable to produce a compact hatchback. Some manufacturers (for example, VW Group with its numerous brands using the same platform) can afford to sell small cars without getting lost in the “crowd”. However, this does not apply to the FCA.
It is also necessary to take into account the tastes of consumers, which have changed greatly since 1993 (just then Punto was born for the first time). But on the other hand, this model remains one of the most popular in Italy, primarily due to its price.
Do not forget that the company did not stay away from the current fashion, offering the public more or less compact cars SUV-segment. So were put on the market Jeep Compass and Renegade, in order to attract more attention from potential buyers. And, of course, these cars will bring the group a greater profit than the baby Punto.
While it is not known what will happen for the company “retirement” hatchback, it will show only time. And the car itself should be given credit for the contribution made to the development of the brand.
