Ferry with the cars of the participants of Dakar broke at the beginning of the journey to PeruDecember 6, 2018
According to journalist Herman Ramirez, last Wednesday the ferry with racing equipment and technical support vehicles set off for a transatlantic flight from the port in Brest to Peru, where the 41st edition of Dakar will start on January 6.
But on Saturday afternoon the ship returned back. The reason was the failure of the turbine during the passage of the Bay of Biscay. A new part must be delivered to the port on Wednesday.
“Yes, due to mechanical damage, the ship is currently in Brest,” confirmed the head of the department for working with participants, Dakar Xavier Gavory. – But there is absolutely no threat to Dakar, since such problems are taken into account when drawing up the route. That is why the loading takes place in November, when there is a stock of time, and not December 10th.
Currently, the situation is under control. In the next few days, the ferry should leave the port in Brest. ”
