Ferrari may ditch V12 engines soonFebruary 9, 2021
The last such car could be the Ferrari 812 GTO. If the information is confirmed, we can talk about the departure of a whole era among supercars.
Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari may soon stop developing and producing cars with V12 engines. This was announced on Tuesday, February 9, by Autocar. Ferrari is currently preparing an update for the powerful 812 GTO supercar.
It could be the supercar to end the V12 era for the brand. The Ferrari 812 GTO is now powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine with 789 hp. After a generation change, its output will grow to 800 hp.
Although this decision is a little sad for fans of cult engines with a unique sound, it certainly did not come as a surprise.
Modern turbo V8 engines have long surpassed the atmospheric V12 in terms of characteristics, and due to their compact size, it is possible to improve the layout and aerodynamics of the car.
Meanwhile, the prototype of the Ferrari Purosangue crossover was spotted during road tests. The car was tested in Sweden – this was done in order to check the behavior of the car in difficult conditions. Ferrari is in no hurry to remove the camouflage film from its first crossover.
