Ferrari announced who will replace Vettel in the Formula 1 teamMay 14, 2020
The Italian team named the composition of the formula team for 2021
Scuderia Ferrari has confirmed the signing of a two-year contract with Carlos Sainz. The Spanish pilot will replace Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel of the second Formula 1 car in the 2021 season and will become the partner of Charles Lecler. The duo of the Spaniard and Monegasque is the youngest pair of Ferrari pilots in the last half century.
The transfer of Carlos Sainz to Ferrari from the McLaren team was made possible after the Italian team was unable to agree with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
The departure of the German rider was the catalyst for a series of transitions: today it was announced that Carlos Sainz in McLaren from next season will be replaced by Renault pilot Daniel Riccardo – the parties signed a multi-year contract. Thus, the composition of McLaren for 2021 is also formed: in the British stable, the Australian will become the partner of Lando Norris.
Where Sebastian Vettel will continue his career is not yet known: Auto Bild magazine claims that the German champion rejected McLaren’s offer because he was not ready to wait three years to join the fight for the title. The publication believes that Vettel has gone all-in and will only agree to move to Mercedes or end his career if you fail to agree with the hegemon of recent years.
