Fernandez won the qualification in AustriaJuly 5, 2020
Pilot ART Sebastian Fernandez won the qualification of the first stage of Formula 3 in Austria. He was just 0.016 seconds ahead of Trident rider Lirin Tsendeli.
According to the results of the first quick circle, the leadership in the qualification was taken by Enaan Ahmed from the Carlin team, whose result was 1.6 seconds faster than the closest pursuer Richard Fershor. However, soon the protocol was headed by Jack Hughes.
A further struggle for leadership in the first attempt developed between Fernandez and David Beckman. Riders ART and Trident changed positions several times, but in the end they were ahead of Logan Sargent.
Clement Novalak on a fast lap lost control and flew into the gravel in the seventh corner, but managed to regain control of the car and return to the track – there were even no yellow flags.
However, the appearance of yellow flags led the turn of Frederick Vesti in the last corner. Prema racer returned to the track on his own, but the rivals had to slow down.
In the second attempt after changing the tires, Jack Hughes showed the best time, but almost immediately his result was blocked by Fernandez and Lirim Tsendeli. The leader of the first attempt, Sargent added, but could not get ahead of the two leaders, and later Logan himself was ahead of Oscar Piastri.
Until the last seconds of the session, the protocol was headed by Tsendeli, but on the last fastest lap the result of the Trident racer was surpassed by Sebastian Fernandez, having won the first pole of the season.
