FAW will bring the Hongqi brand to the masses thanks to the HS5 crossoverMay 26, 2019
Initially, this brand in the FAW concern stood as a niche under which exclusively government cars were produced. But more recently, it was decided to take the company to a new level.
Just three years ago, the Hongqi brand was known only in narrow circles. Under its badge were produced sedans and limousines for government needs. The literal translation of the name sounds like the “Red Banner”, speaking of itself in the vastness of China. But now the brand is reaching a new level, thanks to sales in the “civilian” market. In 2018 alone, 33,000 cars were sold, a sevenfold increase. In the first quarter of 2019, 12,000 cars have already been sold, which is eight times more than last year.
The recently introduced Hongqi HS5 crossover should become the company’s bestseller. Also in the line will appear a more expensive cross HS7 and a real electric car E-HS3. According to representatives of the company, the model will become a competitor for Volkswagen Tiguan L, Jeep Cherokee and Honda UR-V models.
As for the design, it is quite modern, although it uses proven ideas from global brands. The interior is completely made in the style of a modern Mercedes with an imitation of the MBUX multimedia system (the instrument panel and multimedia display are combined in one block).
In the Chinese market, Hongqi HS5 will be launched for sale at the beginning of summer, prices are approximate: from 29 to 39 thousand dollars.
