Fastest Porsche Cayman prepared for the rallyAugust 9, 2018
The motor sport division of Porsche presented a rally prototype built on the basis of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport coupe. The car, behind the wheel of which sits Romain Dumas, will take part in the World Championship stage “Rally Germany”. As a result of the race, it will be decided to build a similar machine on the 718 Cayman GT4 units of the new generation.
From the usual Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the rally version is distinguished by an additional block of lighting equipment, an air intake on the roof, a safety cage, a metal bottom protection and lightweight wheel disks that are shod in all-terrain rubber.
Information about the power plant yet. Probably, the prototype will be equipped with a 3.8-liter opposed engine, the output of which is 385 horsepower, and a six-speed robotic transmission PDK with two clutches. The road version of the Porsche Cayman GT4 with this unit accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The maximum speed of the coupe is 295 kilometers per hour.
Earlier, Dumas was driving an electric sports prototype Volkswagen I.D. R set a record for climbing Mount Pikes Peak. The French racing driver drove an almost 20-kilometer track consisting of 156 turns, 7 minutes 57,148 seconds and 16 seconds ahead of the previous track record set by the nine-time world champion in rallying Sebastien Loeb on the 875-hp prototype Peugeot 208 T16.
