Volkswagen is going to send the current Beetle to retirement due to weak demand. The current generation of Beetle entered the market in 2012 and sold 108 thousand copies at that time, but in 2017 the sales volume was only 59 thousand. Last year, the manufacturer decided to abandon the model and did not plan to develop a successor.

In a number of countries, the suspension of sales of the Volkswagen Beetle, assembled in Mexico, was not advertised. In our country, the last cars were imported back in 2016. Hatch sales in Germany stopped in 2017, and in the beginning of spring this year they stopped importing convertibles, although dealers still have a stock of cars.

Japan has become one of the last markets where Beetle sales continue, because there it is considered a cult. Beetle even entered the TOP-20 import cars with 4,445 cars sold in 2017, which is 14% higher than the result of the previous year. For example, the sales volume of the Fiat 500 was 4,303 units.

For Japanese consumers Volkswagen prepared a “farewell” series of Beetle Exclusive with a special finish and an expanded list of equipment. Upholstery is made of a combination of nappa leather of two colors with a diamond-shaped stitch, on the thresholds are attached overlays with the name of the version, and the equipment includes an infotainment system and climate control. The “exclusive” version also received 18-inch wheels, bi-xenon head optics and LED rear lights.

Sales model for the past three years in the US market amounted to: in 2015 – 22 667 units, 2016 – 15 667 units and in 2017 – 15 166 cars. The sales volume of the Volkswagen Beetle in Europe is fixed as follows: 25,562, 25,127 and 22,360 machines, respectively.
