Europe expects the coupe-like Skoda Kodiaq GT

The Spanish portal Motor.es shared the first spy photos of the new Skoda Kodiaq GT. The photos show a more sporty coupe-like version of the biggest crossover of the Czech brand. It is already known for sure that the model will go on sale to Chinese markets before the end of this year. Trials in Europe say that the novelty will also appear here.

The new model with the appearance of the coupe will take place in the line between Karoq and Kodiaq as an alternative to the new Renault Arkana. On the possibility of a cross in the body of the coupe, representatives of Skoda said last year during the presentation in China of the concept of Skoda Kodiaq GT. This year this information was confirmed, literally in July 2018, the Chinese posted official pictures of the cross.

Now the spies have photographed several prototypes in Europe, waiting for the tests to pass. That is, the model will also appear in the European market immediately after the start of sales in China. The photographs show several completely camouflaged cars with a falling roof, three of which are masked “under the Mazda CX-5.”

In the prototype, which is in the center under the camouflage film, you can see that the Skoda stylists have made a “broken” design of the rear lights, so the only aesthetic difference is in the form of the tailgate. The coupe differs from the usual Kodiaq and the interior, as the novelty will have only five seats and lower headrests for the rear passengers.

In the assortment of the Czech manufacturer this version will be located between Karoq and Kodiaq. Although it is built on a modular MQB platform with a standard wheelbase length (2791 mm), the body length and height will be reduced by a few millimeters.

The range of power units for Europe will be different from the Chinese line. So, instead of petrol two-liter motors with a capacity of 186 and 220 hp, it can be assumed that Europeans will get the top engines of the standard Kodiaq: two-liter gasoline (180 hp) or two-liter diesel (190 hp).
