Esteban Gerrieri won from pole in MarrakeshApril 8, 2019
Munnich Motorsport driver Esteban Gerrieri confidently won the first race of the WTCR season, keeping the lead from start to finish.
At the start, Gerrieri managed to keep Ted Björk behind Lynk & Co, who was trying to pass an Argentinian on an external trajectory, and then simply controlled the lead. The Swede lost to him only 0.638 seconds at the finish, but after the first round he did not threaten his positions.
Immediately behind Bjork, Jean-Carl Verne of Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport finished, but the judges added 5 seconds to his result for contact with Andy Priol in the first half of the race, which is why the Frenchman went down to seventh place. Third place on the podium went to another Argentine – Nestor Girolami.
The fourth in the protocol was Gabriele Tarquini, and the fifth – Andy Priol, who, after contacting Verne at the beginning of the race, missed the third place and actively poured oil on the track (and Tiago Monteiro’s car behind).
Augusta Farfus managed to earn two points in the first race after returning to World Touring, making it to the 14th place. Ivan Muller, who started the last due to the replacement of the engine, was only 18th, and Johan Kristofferson, the two-time world rallycross world champion, got off on the second lap.
