eSports: Pascal Wehrlein wins race in Hong KongMay 18, 2020
Pascal Wehrlein won the second consecutive victory in the virtual Formula E, which allowed the German rider Mahindra Racing to become the leader of the Home Challenge series.
The second finished Stoffel Vandorn, who stands for the Mercedes factory team, the third place was taken by James Calado, the representative of Jaguar.
Edouardo Mortara (Venturi) won the pole on the city circuit in Hong Kong, retaining leadership at the start of the race despite a chaotic start, while Verlain, who started second, could not avoid the trouble. A similar fate befell Max Gunther: not only did the BMW pilot lose 3rd position – he generally rolled outside the top ten, receiving a fine for a false start. Looking ahead, we say that the winner of the first two stages of the Home Challenge did not reach the finish line.
At some point, Calado took the second position, but he was soon ahead of Verlain and Vandorn, decisively breaking forward. Mortara, the leader, made a mistake, probably, having failed to cope with the pressure, touched the barrier, seriously damaging the car, and missed four opponents, the first of which was Verlain.
As a result, Pascal crossed the finish line four seconds earlier than Vandorn, and this victory allowed him to become the leader of the series – he is 5 points ahead of Gunther. And for James Calado, the podium in Hong Kong was the first such achievement in the virtual Formula E.
The fifth round of the Home Challenge series will take place next Saturday.
